The characters are honestly great in this game. The reason I praise this game so much though is because of the characters. If not though, I give fair warning as there are a lot of them and they start out fairly challenging from the onset. If you’re good at these kinds of puzzles, they’re pretty simple and not ridiculously difficult. They’re also very logic-based puzzles, often where you have to fill in numbers or information in a set by discerning that set’s particular rule. Nancy does interrogate suspects and gather clues but most of it is for the purpose of solving another puzzle. The main reason this game does feel so constraining and directive is that it is predominantly a puzzle game: each puzzle you complete reveals another puzzle, which reveals a new location with a new set of puzzles to complete. I didn’t mind it, but fans aren’t going to find this plot particularly special. However, I can understand that many would find the plot too generic and the game a little too constraining there’s never anything surprising in the mystery and it does feel like the game is almost holding your hand for the most part. There’s never any doubt about what Nancy is doing or what we – as the players – are trying to achieve, and I definitely felt like I was uncovering and piercing the clues together alongside Nancy, rather than having them constantly explained to me as in Labyrinth of Lies.

I liked the plot but I do have to acknowledge that I was especially fond of this plot because it was very clear and straightforward. Unlike this game’s predecessors, this game has a very simple plot: Nancy has to find the ship’s supposed hidden treasure to determine what happened to Magnus the more she learns about the ship, the more clues and information she obtains as to where Magnus has disappeared – and for what reason. As Nancy starts to investigate though, she begins to suspect Magnus’ disappearance may be the result of foul play, especially since it seems each of the townspeople have their own agenda for the ship. Dagny believes her partner, Magnus, discovered the hidden treasure rumoured to be aboard an old ship they acquired from the town – and, subsequently, fled town to avoid splitting the earnings with her. In this adventure, Nancy travels to a small town in Iceland at the request of Dagny, a woman whose business partner recently disappeared during a local festival. While this game’s plot/mystery is hardly unique, it’s has a cast of great suspects, puzzles and locations. After playing the games from Ghost of Thornton Hallto Labyrinth of Lies, I really thought Her Interactive was establishing a pattern of having strange, confusing storylines and characters to match.
